I would be lost without Katrina Markarian. From the White House coordination, features in major dailies, to Morning Edition and every Podunk little or large show we have done- we have enjoyed amazing press coverage on every release she has worked with us. She's a gem.

I can't think of a better marketing publicist to work with than Katrina. She is complete, thorough, tenacious and a good person to boot!

Katrina Markarian is a pro, with smart strategical thinking, out of the box ideas and fearless enthusiasm. I’ve worked with her in many circumstances and she always exceeded our goals. Katrina rocks!

Katrina is not only a Goddess amongst women but among publicists. She is a passionate deeply motivated individual who works tirelessly on behalf of promoting and supporting the music and the artist's she represents.  The artists who have Katrina and Segue behind them are a fortunate group indeed. I feel very blessed to have her working on my behalf.

Katrina is great. As an independent artist recording blues-oriented music with African musicians, we found ourselves in uncharted territory. But thanks to Katrina and her associates who believed in the album, we have seen a great critical response in national and international publications such as Billboard, Downbeat, Wired, F-Roots, BluesRevue and many others. We have also appeared on BBC, Public Radio International and in both World and Blues programs. This response is certainly a result of Katrina’s efforts.

Promotions and Marketing

She “went from singing the blues to promoting the blues….”

Katrina Markarian has been involved in the promotional and marketing end of the music industry for over a decade, after promoting Sarah Baker’s debut self-titled album on Firenze Records. Katrina participated in Sarah’s success of charting the top ten in Gavin’s Report, CMJ and The Album Network with rave reviews. Having one successful promotional campaign behind her, Markus James, a partner at Firenze Records, contacted Katrina and asked her if she would be interested in running his latest album’s, Spirit Gate, campaign.

Upon ending the Spirit Gate campaign, Katrina decided to open her own promotional company, Segue Entertainment. Delving into the promotional world of marketing and promotion, she met Nadine Condon in San Francisco, who invited her to join the Nadine Condon Company as head of publicity. Katrina merged into work with major and Indie labels as well as promoting the BMI Showcase and Gavin convention.

During this time she had the opportunity to meet Roy and Gaynell Rogers from Blue Muse Management. Roy Rogers was looking for a publicist to release his new album Pleasure and Pain on Virgin/Pointblank Records (’98). After a successful campaign, Katrina was asked to join the team and help promote their next Indie release Everybody’s Angel, by Roy Rogers and Shana Morrison. Katrina has had success working from the White House to the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

She currently works with Pamela Rose’s release You Could Have It All. Recently she set-up an interview with Pamela Rose on NPR’s “All Things Considered” (CD sales escalated and Pamela received emails from fans across the country while Three Handed Records received large demands from Amazon.com and CD Baby for copies of the album.) She also works with Firenze Record’s musician, artist Markus James on his two latest albums Where You Wanna Be and Nightbird. His latest release Nightbird will be reviewed in national publications Wired Magazine, Creative Loafing and Magical Blend. She is currently organizing Markus James’ tour for March and April 2002.

Not only does Katrina’s work focus on the music industry, but so does her personal life. This year she is heading up the music CD fundraiser from Sony to help raise finances for Willowside Middle School’s Music Program. Last year she helped to teach the 6th grade Band at Sonoma Country Day School, took private guitar lessons, performance classes and sang back-up in the Kid Street Theater’s “Glass Slipper Blues” which was directed by Sarah Baker, one of the artists at Firenze Records.

Leslie Loy,
Office and Research Management

In 2001 Leslie was working for an Environmental Business program when she was introduced to blues-world musician Markus James. Asked to assist him with his upcoming release, Where You Wanna Be, Leslie began to explore the industry and met Katrina Markarian, who invited her to join the Segue team. From there, things took off and Leslie took on office and research management as well as assisting Katrina in making her business grow.

As a Waldorf graduate, Leslie has had years of musical experience. As a child she played the violin, piano and djembes drum. She continued her musical journey as a lead soprano in her High School's Choir and continues to dabble in lyrical writing in improvisational jams with local musicians. Always passionate about music, she never imagined actually working in the music industry. On the side she continues to work independently with local DJs and musicians, youth empowerment organizations, and co-teaches sustainable agrarianism courses at her former high school; she also chairs the Summerfield Alumni Association.

Leslie is also working on a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Humanities with a minor in Sexuality and is currently in the third year of her Waldorf Teacher Training.
